How to Prep Your Hair Before the Big Day

Preparing your hair for a special event, especially a big day like a wedding or major celebration, is essential to ensure you look and feel your best. With the right prep, your hair can be vibrant, healthy, and ready to shine. Here are five key tips to help you get your hair in top shape before your big day.

Start with a Clean Slate

The rumours aren’t true. You don’t want dirty hair to make your style last longer. We have products now to ensure your hairstyle slays all day. Dry shampoo can absorb some oil and give your hair some volume, but it can’t give you that freshly-washed look.

We recommend washing your hair on the morning of the event, or the night before. Make sure to use a gentle shampoo suited to your hair type. If you have naturally fine hair or hair that gets greasy quickly, skip the conditioner this time!

Pro Tip: Whenever possible, use a hairdryer to give your hair a smoother and more voluminous starting point for your hairstylist. Of course, if you’re a curly girl wanting to keep your luscious curls for the big day, DO NOT try to blow dry your hair smooth…talk to your hairstylist about your desired look and what the best way to prep your hair is.

Deep Condition for Hydration

Keeping your hair hydrated is crucial, especially if you're planning to style it in a specific way. Incorporate a deep conditioning treatment into your hair care routine to restore moisture and shine.

Use a deep conditioning mask at least once a week leading up to your big day. Apply it after shampooing, leave it on for the recommended time, and rinse thoroughly for soft, manageable hair. Think of it as a bit of self-care leading up to your big day!

Trim and Tame Split Ends

Scheduling a trim two to three weeks before your event is a must. This ensures your hair looks healthy and prevents split ends from ruining your style.

When getting your trim, discuss your hairstyle plans with your stylist. They can help shape your hair for optimal styling on the big day.

Protect Your Hair from Damage

In the days leading up to your event, minimize heat styling and chemical treatments to keep your hair healthy and vibrant. When you do style, use a heat protectant spray to prevent damage.

Even better, opt for heat-free hairstyles, like braids or buns, to give your hair a break while keeping it looking good.

Choose Your Accessories

If you have a specific hairstyle or hairpiece in mind, ask your hairstylist if your vision is possible with the style + accessory, or ask what options there are to elevate your hairstyle or draw focus to your gorgeous hair piece! Ensure you bring your veil and any accessories to your appointment on the big day!

We have a wide variety of hair accessories available to try on and purchase at our studio in Ancaster, Ontario or we can ship them within Canada!
