Questions to Ask Your Hair & Makeup Team Before Booking

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and naturally, you want to look and feel your absolute best.

That’s where your hair and makeup team comes in—we’re here to help you bring your bridal vision to life. But before you book, it’s essential to make sure you’re choosing the right professionals who can understand your style, cater to your needs, and ensure a stress-free experience on the big day.

Here are some key questions to ask your hair and makeup team before booking!

1. What is your experience with bridal hair and makeup?

You want a team that’s familiar with the pressures and expectations of a wedding day and can create long-lasting looks that photograph well.

Not all makeup artists and hairstylists specialize in weddings, and the techniques used for bridal looks can differ from other events. Ask how long they’ve been working with brides, what types of weddings they’ve worked on, and whether they’ve handled a variety of skin tones, hair textures, and personal styles. A seasoned team will be able to adjust to the unique needs of your day, ensuring that you look flawless from day to night!

2. Can I see your portfolio or client reviews?

Look at their past work to get a feel for their style. Ask to see their portfolio, whether it’s on Instagram, a website, or a physical book of photos. We 100% recommend reading reviews from past brides can also help you gauge their professionalism and ability to deliver results. Look for feedback on how well the artists listened to their clients, how flexible they were on the day of the event, and how happy previous brides were with their final look.

3. What is included in your bridal package?

No one likes a hidden cost. Get clarity on what’s included in the bridal package. Does the package cover a trial run? Will they provide touch-ups throughout the day? Can they accommodate bridesmaids, the mother of the bride, and other guests? Knowing exactly what’s included in your package helps prevent surprises later and ensures that you’re getting the services you need.

4. What products do you use?

The quality of products matters, especially when it comes to the longevity and finish of your look. Ask what brands they use, whether they cater to different skin types (dry, oily, sensitive, etc.), and if they can work with specific preferences, such as vegan or cruelty-free products.

5. How long will it take to do my hair and makeup on the day of?

Timing is crucial on your wedding day, so you’ll want to know how long it will take to complete your hair and makeup. Ask them to estimate the time for both the trial run and the wedding day itself. It’s also a good idea to discuss how they manage timing if they are working on additional people like bridesmaids or the mother of the bride.

In our experience, the trial usually takes longer than the wedding day hair & makeup because we’re taking time to consult with you, discuss concerns and preferences, and making sure we get your look just right so we all know what to expect on the big day.

6. Do you offer a trial session?

Though not mandatory, we highly recommend booking a Hair &/or Makeup Trial. This allows you to try different styles and adjust before the big day. Ask if the trial is included in the package or if it’s an additional cost, and make sure to schedule it early enough to make any changes if needed.

7. Can you accommodate last-minute changes?

Wedding day changes are inevitable; whether someone in the bridal party wants a different look or an unexpected weather change requires a tweak to your hairstyle. Ask your makeup artist and hairstylist how flexible they are with last-minute changes and how they handle unforeseen circumstances.

Your beauty team plays a crucial role in how confident you feel walking down the aisle, so it's key to take the time to find the right fit.
